bridesmaid babes
the inspiration behind this photoshoot was simple. you scroll through #weddings on Instagram for an hour and you get picturesque scenes, jaw-dropping venues, intricate tablescapes, and cozy couples.
very rarely do you see photos that emphasize the women behind the bride—the besties, the girl gangs, the partners-in-crime. this is an ode to you, ladies. the bridesmaid babes.
i decided, why not dedicate an entire photoshoot to just that? three bridesmaids & a bride. simple; yet, oh-so-empowering to see when it’s spicing up the newsfeed.
so when i joined forces with mari sabra to brainstorm the photoshoot’s mood board, we agreed that we wanted the finished product to scream moody, but bold—not too unlike the quintessential photos she is known for.
the models flaunted dresses whose textures varied, while still maintaining a uniform, metallic, gold hue. and if they managed to incorporate just the right amount of smizing action, it was a bonus. the ultimate goal was to stop people’s scrolling in their tracks. and i’m sure these photos did exactly that.
in any case, this photoshoot was designed with intention to evoke a sense of unapologetic confidence and femininity. i personally took inspiration from ‘the veiled lady’, a famous statue by sculptor, raphaelle monti. that, and a number of editorial photos featuring women whose silhouettes could just vaguely be detected under delicate, cascading tulle.
all of this in mind, mari and i requested bold, red lipstick as the models got their hair & makeup done that afternoon. we knew we could trust simple florals to curate a refreshing & vibrant set of bouquets to bring out the scarlet smirks on each of the models’ faces.
this photoshoot resonated with me from the moment of conception, through to the execution, and still has a special place in my heart even months after the final edits of the photos were delivered. i’ll forever cherish the moments spent laughing and chatting in the studio with women that were just previously strangers, as though i was catching up with old friends.
